Best RFID Passport Wallets in Australia (2026): An Honest Buyer's Guide

The best RFID passport wallet depends on how you travel. A solo traveller needs only a slim cover that holds a passport and a few cards; a family is better off with one organiser that holds every passport; and if you want premium leather, Bellroy is the better pick. Your passport chip already has its own lock, so RFID blocking mostly matters for your contactless cards.

This guide is written by TravelSmart, an Australian online store. We sell some of the wallets below, and we've included other brands where they suit a buyer better. Prices were checked on each brand's own website in November 2026 and can change.

Do you actually need RFID blocking?

Your ePassport chip and tap-and-go cards can be read by a reader held close to them. Your passport chip has its own built-in lock: under Basic Access Control, a reader has to read the printed lines at the bottom of your photo page before the chip will share its data. Card skimming isn't something most travellers run into every day, and your bank has its own fraud protections, but RFID blocking is a simple way to stop unwanted scans of your cards. It works on its own, with nothing to switch on, so you don't have to think about it in busy airports and terminals.

If you already have a passport cover you like and your cards sit in an RFID-blocking wallet, you don't need another one.

What a good passport wallet does every trip is keep your passport, cards and boarding pass together, protect the passport from bent corners and spills, and make check-in faster.

The four types of passport wallet

1. Slim passport covers (solo travellers)

A slim cover holds one passport plus a few cards and fits a jacket pocket. Choose this if you travel light and keep most of your money in a separate everyday wallet.

  • TravelSmart RFID Passport Wallet (A$49.90): 1 passport, 4 cards and a cash pocket. 14.1 × 10.4 × 1 cm, 60 g, soft-touch PU (synthetic) leather, built-in RFID-blocking layer. Black or Brown.
  • TravelSmart Slim RFID Passport Wallet (A$39.90): passport, boarding pass and 3 cards in a cover of about 14.5 × 10 cm, with a quick-release passport sleeve for check-in. RFID-lined card slots. Black, Pink or Blue.
  • Bellroy Passport Cover (A$149): premium leather with a magnetic closure. Holds 1–2 standard passports, boarding passes and up to 6 cards, with a hidden flap for bills and receipts, and RFID protection.
  • Zoomlite RFID Passport Holder (A$26): 1 passport and 4 card slots in a water-repellent polyester holder, 11.8 × 16.5 × 1.5 cm closed, 80 g, button closure. The whole holder blocks RFID when closed.
  • Travelon RFID Blocking Passport Case (US$24 list price on Travelon's US site): about 10.2 × 14 × 0.6 cm, 4 card slots and 3 receipt slots, polyester and leather, RFID blocking.

2. Travel wallets (everything in one place)

A travel wallet takes your passport, cards, cash and boarding passes in one piece. It's bigger than a slim cover, so it usually lives in a bag.

  • TravelSmart ZipSafe™ RFID Travel Wallet (A$39.90): passport, cards, cash and boarding passes. 23 × 12 × 2 cm, PU leather, full zip-around closure, 13.56 MHz RFID shielding layer.
  • Pacsafe RFIDsafe RFID Blocking Travel Wallet (US$89.95 on Pacsafe's official APAC store): 2 RFID-blocking passport pockets, 8 card slots, zip coin pocket, pen loop and a quick-access boarding pass pocket. 22.5 × 11.5 × 2 cm, 140 g, recycled polyester. It has a D-ring for Pacsafe's cut-resistant wallet strap (sold separately), which suits travellers who want more anti-theft options than RFID blocking.
  • Bellroy Travel Wallet (A$199): a premium leather bi-fold that fits a passport, 4–10+ cards, tickets and bills, with a hidden cash compartment, RFID protection and a built-in micro pen.

3. Family passport wallets (4 or more passports)

One parent carries every passport and boarding pass, with a pen handy for arrival cards. That makes check-in and customs much simpler.

  • TravelSmart Family Passport Wallet (A$69.90): 4–5 passports in dedicated slots (depending on passport thickness), plus boarding passes, tickets, cards, notes and coins, and a built-in pen holder. Full-length zip, adjustable shoulder strap, RFID-blocking lining. Navy or Black.
  • Travelon RFID Blocking Family Passport Wallet (US$33 list price on Travelon's US site): 6 passport slots, 4 card slots (up to 8 cards), pen slot, zip closure, nylon, about 12.1 × 21 × 1.9 cm, 104 g. Travelon says the whole wallet is RFID-protected.
  • Zoomlite RFID Protected Family Travel Wallet (A$32): 4 passport slots, 5 card spaces, pen loop and an external boarding pass pocket. 22.5 × 13 × 2 cm, 120 g, ripstop polyester, detachable wrist strap. The whole wallet blocks RFID when closed.

4. Gift-boxed passport wallets

If it's a present, a gift box saves wrapping.

  • TravelSmart RFID Passport Wallet – Gift Box Edition (A$64.90): the RFID Passport Wallet in a TravelSmart gift box with crinkle-paper fill, plus a free RFID Shield Card for their everyday wallet. Two gift boxes, each with a free card, are A$114.90.
  • Zoomlite RFID Passport Holder (A$26): Zoomlite lists it as packaged in a gift box.
  • Bellroy Passport Cover (A$149): the pick if the budget is bigger and the recipient values premium leather.

How to choose: five questions

  1. How many passports? One: a slim cover. Two: two slim covers, or a travel wallet listed for two passports (Bellroy's Passport Cover and Pacsafe's RFIDsafe Travel Wallet both are). Four or five: a family wallet. Six: Travelon's family wallet lists 6 slots, or pair our Family Passport Wallet with a Slim RFID Passport Wallet.
  2. Pocket or bag? A slim cover fits a jacket pocket (our RFID Passport Wallet is 1 cm thick). A travel wallet or family wallet usually goes in a bag.
  3. Do you want cash and boarding passes in the same place? If yes, choose a travel wallet or a family wallet.
  4. Leather or synthetic? Our RFID Passport Wallet and ZipSafe™ use PU (synthetic) leather, which is light and wipes clean. If you want genuine leather, look at Bellroy.
  5. Budget? Good passport wallets start under A$40. Bellroy's leather Passport Cover and Travel Wallet are A$149 and A$199.

FAQ

Does an Australian passport fit a standard passport wallet?

Yes. Australian passports are a standard size, and all the TravelSmart passport wallets here are sized for standard passports, including Australian ones. For other brands, check their fit notes: Bellroy says its Travel Wallet fits all passports except Irish and pre-2017 German ones.

Is RFID blocking necessary for my passport?

Your passport chip has its own lock: a reader has to read the printed lines on your photo page before the chip will share its data. Your tap-and-go cards don't have that lock, so that's where RFID blocking helps most. Skimming isn't something most travellers run into every day, and your bank has its own fraud protections, but an RFID-blocking wallet is a simple way to stop unwanted scans, with nothing to switch on.

What's the best passport wallet for a family?

One that holds every passport in its own slot and closes securely. The TravelSmart Family Passport Wallet holds 4–5 passports, with a full-length zip, a pen holder and an adjustable shoulder strap.

Slim cover or travel wallet?

Choose a slim cover if you want pocket carry and keep cash elsewhere. Choose a travel wallet if you want passport, cards, cash and boarding passes together in a bag.

Is PU leather any good?

PU is a synthetic leather. It's light and wipes clean, but it doesn't age like genuine leather. If that matters to you, choose a genuine leather brand such as Bellroy.

What does a good passport wallet cost in Australia?

Good options start under A$40. Premium leather costs more: Bellroy's Passport Cover is A$149 and its Travel Wallet is A$199.
